The Bushido was founded in February 1969, with the aim of promoting the Kyushindo philosophy and providing facilities where both seniors and juniors could enjoy Judo and other Martial Arts in a friendly and social atmosphere, free from strife and petty jealouses. In 1971 the Bushido amalgamated with the Zazen clubs of Holland. Both groups had much in common and believed that they should be free to work and practise with whom so ever they wished and not be rin their choice by the recognised governing body of their respective countries.

A Message from Arnold Davies Sensei 8th Dan Hanshi

May I explain that participation in a promotion examination does not necessarily result in the student being promoted to a higher grade. The primary function of a grading is to correct technical faults and to improve the students mental and spiritual attitude.
I am reminded of a certain white belt who failed his promotion to yellow belt on several occasions and he decided to give up Judo and told his Sensei of his decision. The Sensei explained of all the worlds greatest victories, the victory of self over self is the greatest, and the resolute determination to try again at the next grading is the ultimate victory. On hearing this the student showed new determination by entering the next grading, and sure enough, he failed again.
He did however eventually pass, so there is no such thing as a failure. A stubborn refusal to give in and the determination to try again is all that is required.

CONCLUSION

We live in a world which in some way, no matter how insignificant we have helped to create. We cannot help what is past. However we can through the practise of Martial Arts, modify our future actions to bring about an improvement in all things.

Yours in Budo, Arnold
