Martial Arts Offered

Judo (Joo-Doh)

In Judo you grapple with your opponent and the aim is to throw them flat on their back, (how to fall safely using a breakfall is one of the things you learn in any of the Martial Arts!) or to hold them on the floor on their backs for a certain length of time, either of which will win you the match. In Judo lessons you will be taught how to both perform and defend yourself against throws and holds, and there are arm locks and strangles ect, to be learned.

Jujutsu (Joo-Jut-Soo)

Jujutsu contains aspects of both Judo and Karate, so as well as throws holds strangles and locks you will learn punches and kicks and how to defend against these and other attacks you may meet. Once again you will learn to fall safely when thrown. There is a strong aspect of practical self defence in Jujutsu.


Aikido (Eye-Kee-Doh)

Aikido has its roots in Jujutsu and emphasises defence techniques and the use of the opponents strength and momentum against them. The use of arm lock and wrist locks to control an opponent is important and overall Aikido has a more smooth and passive feel than the previous two.


Aiki Jujutsu (Eye-Kee-Jew-Jut-Soo)

Aiki Jujutsu has been for many centuries a closely guarded system of martial combat technique. The original system of Aiki Jujutsu, which still exists today, is called Daitoryu Aiki Jujutsu. The Daitoryu system is believed to have originated in the year's 858 to 867, by the family of the Emperor of Japan at that time. A descendant of the Emperor, Shira Saburo Minamoto-no-Yoshimitsu is credited with developing the Daitoryu system in the eleventh Century.

Kendo (Ken-Doh)

Kendo is derived from ancient Japanese swordsmanship and through the centuries has evolved into a martial art and a sport favoured by both young and old. It is part of the Japanese school curriculum and many adults practice Kendo as part of their early morning work-out. It is popular both in the East and West due to the fact that it strengthens body and soul while instilling an code of conduct that spills into daily life.
